Edward A. Gagatek, 90, of Swoyersville, died Saturday, January 15, 2022 at his home.
He was born on May 19, 1931 in Edwardsville, the son of the late Michael and Margaret Gagatek. He graduated from Meyers High School and served in the Air Force.
He attended the West Side Technical School for machinery training and was employed by Atlas Chain and Cable and Kingston Metal Products.
Ed was an early pioneer in the sport of weightlifting and bodybuilding. He liked to work on motorcycles and Ford Mustangs.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rita Mazeitis Gagatek.
Surviving are his sons, David Gagatek and Michael Gagatek and his wife, Michelle, all of Swoyersville; grandchildren, Michael and Mickayla; sisters, Margaret Swanson, Swoyersville; Marlene Danouski, Shavertown; brother, Thomas Gagatek and his wife, Carole, Wilkes-Barre; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Ltd., 568 Bennett Street, Lucerne. Services will be led by the Reverend Jarrod Waugh, Holy Family Parish Administrator. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Dallas. Friends can call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday.
