The story was written during the first Arnold Classic UK competition in Birmingham, England. Nathan De Asha won the first edition of the new bodybuilding competition, held at the Arnold Sports Festival UK from October 1-3.
With this victory De Asha is the first man to qualify for the Mr. Olympia 2022 competition. His fellow British bodybuilder Samson Dauda clinched an impressive second place against a seasoned De Asha. Théo Leguerrier finished third. The top five in the Men’s Open division are listed below.
2021 Arnold Classic UK Men Open Top Five
- Nathan De Asha
- Samson Dauda
- Théo Leguerrier
- Patrick johnson
- Krystian Wolski
Winner – Nathan De Asha
De Asha showed incredible symmetry as usual and arrived very skinny. It was obvious that De Asha was already gearing up for Mr. Olympia 2021, which will take place October 7-10, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. (De Asha is on the list of qualified athletes for the Olympia, although the actual list of competitors has not yet been consolidated.) Throughout the competition, the judges repeatedly compared De Asha and Dauda. The British bodybuilder didn’t seem to tire out as he went through his mandatory poses to his advantage.
Unfortunately for De Asha, Arnold Schwarzenegger was not present as he is recovering from a leg injury. However, the winner joined eight times Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman for the presentation of the trophy and an interview afterwards. This is De Asha’s second win of the season. He also won the Europa Pro 2021 in Spain in August 2021.
Second place – Samson Dauda
Dauda showed up to this bigger contest than ever before and sported a noticeable level of conditioning. He will not participate in the Olympia, so he put all his efforts at his peak for this competition.
Dauda exuded confidence and made sure the judges struggled to pick a winner. In the end, they opted for De Asha, who has even more maturity and muscle density. That said, fans should keep an eye out for Dauda in 2022.
Third place – Théo Leguerrier
This was Leguerrier’s fourth show of the 2021 season and his highest ranking. His best ranking before that was a fifth place in the Mr. Big Evolution 2021 competition in July. To his credit, Leguerrier’s third place probably had more to do with what De Asha and Dauda did right and less about what he did wrong. He could take part in one of the post-Olympian shows to qualify for the 2022 competition.
Winners from other divisions
Four other IFBB Pro League took place at the Arnold Sports Festival UK. Another home country favorite, Ryan Terry, won the men’s physics title and qualified for Olympia 2022. Classic Physique winner was Michael Daboul, and Bikini champion was Phoebe Hagan. The shocking conclusion came in the Fitness division.
After the withdrawal of four competitors, Kate Errington was to be the only competitor in the roster. However, after getting her pro card at the Amateur Fitness competition held on October 1 at ASF UK, Michelle Mensah took to the stage as a pro and beat Errington. Mensah went from hobbyist to skilled Olympia pro in less than 48 hours.
- Men’s physics – Ryan Terry
- Classical physics – Michel Daboul
- Bikini – Phoebe Hagan
- Aptitude – Michelle (aka Shelly) Mensah
And then there was one
Scheduled for October 7-10, Olympia weekend will see 11 divisions compete for a share of the $ 1.6 million prize pool and the most coveted title in the sport of bodybuilding. The O is the last show of the season for many of the top pros in the sport, and the last chance to qualify was at the Arnold Classic US.
For those who can’t make it to Orlando, a PPV is available at olympiaproductions.com for $ 49.95.
