Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will focus on a new series detailing the rise of Ferrari

As Peaky Blinders fans mourn the end of the long-running series, creator Steven Knight has unveiled his latest project: the evocative story of Enzo Ferrari and his iconic brand.

After the huge success of Peaky Blinders, it’s safe to say that there isn’t a Steven Knight project we wouldn’t watch. For years it has fueled our curiosity and intrigue like a captive audience, all too willing to wait out the calendar months in anticipation of the next season of the hit show that followed Tommy Shelby and his family’s exploits.

The hit series may be over, but it looks like Knight is far from getting up and chilling during downtime, with a slew of projects on the horizon. These include the feature film adaptation of Peaky Blindersa potential season two of Taboo with Tom Hardy, and a collaboration with the BBC with SAS: Rogue Heroes. But what seems to have piqued the interest of fans around the world is the announcement of an Apple TV+ series about the life of iconic automaker, Enzo Ferrari.

Take inspiration from the best-selling biography Ferrari from Luca Dal Monte, the upcoming series will see Knight team up with Italian director Stefano Sollimo from Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Without remorse. In a statement on the project, Knight revealed, “I am thrilled to tell such an evocative story about this legendary man and his iconic brand. The utterly extraordinary life of Enzo Ferrari has been defined by his dramatic personal and professional journey, and Ferrari is a celebration of an incredibly complex and fascinating human being.

Sollima added: “As an Italian, I feel honored to be able to tell this story of Enzo Ferrari, a shining example of Italian excellence. Through his relationship with Ferrari Spring Team, the five drivers Enzo adopted into his scuderia after the loss of his eldest son, we’ll explore the unique qualities, great genius and dark obsession that made this man a legend.

While details surrounding the project remain scarce, an official synopsis of The Hollywood Reporter is out. It reads: “Five years. Five drivers. Five dead. A trial. In the name of passion, in pursuit of pure speed. At the center of it all is a titanic man – complex and multifaceted – who devoted his genius to the mission of building the fastest racing car in history. Enzo Ferrari: his name became a boast, an aspiration, and ultimately a legend. But there was a trail of tragedy and torment along the way. Between 1956 and 1961, deeply hurt by the tragic death of his eldest son Dino and by what he saw as betrayal by his main driver Juan Manuel Fangio, Enzo Ferrari rebuilt his racing stable from scratch, selecting five promising rising stars of motor racing to battle it out. For victory.”

The announcement marks a new foray into the world of racing, which has become hugely popular lately, especially in the wake of Netflix. Drive to survive. Brad Pitt is next to don the racing suit in the upcoming film, Formula One, which will see the star play a veteran F1 driver who comes out of retirement to mentor a “promising rookie”.
