PRAIRIEVILLE – Mom, gym owner, personal trainer and bodybuilder, Brandi Leblanc, added a new title to her roster Friday night—104.5 ESPN Honorary ESPY Award recipient.
“I didn’t come here hoping to win it. I was just coming to do an interview,” said Leblanc, owner of Barbelle Beauty Fitness.
The ESPY Honorary Award is a local version of ESPN’s ESPY Award. It rewards individual and collective sporting achievements. This year, 104.5, ESPN Baton Rouge, wanted rrecognize someone who helps expand access to sports for girls.
“They said there were three people, and I was one of the three, so I’m absolutely surprised,” Leblanc said.
Leblanc has not always been in good shape. After leaving an abusive marriage, she began to build muscle, becoming stronger mentally and physically.
“I don’t see it as a tragedy, or anything like that, I see it as empowerment for me,” Leblanc said.
In 2019, she opened her own training studio, Barbell Beauty Fitness in Prarieville, inspiring other women.
“They were telling me the things they were struggling with, they were telling me how they lost their confidence and how badly they wanted it back. They came to me as a last resort,” Leblanc said. “It’s become a passion. and a mission ministry honestly for me, to help other women overcome these issues.”
Leblanc plans to expand his studio from 1,200 square feet to over 4,000 square feet. Everyone is invited to practice.
Ascension Parish gym owner will be mentioned on ESPY awards. They air at 7 p.m. July 20 on WBRZ.
