As schools across the state began operating from June 13 for the 2022-2023 school year, the annual inspection of school vehicles for safety and regulatory standards has begun in Coimbatore District, the June 18.

Collector GS Sameeran inspected the city’s PRS ground school vehicles. Nearly 1,265 school vehicles from 230 private schools in the city were on hand for the inspection.

Mr Sameeran ordered officials to include Tamil on the emergency notice boards, which were in English and Hindi. The collector suggested that building custom vehicle bodies for school vans is kid-friendly. He also said drivers must undergo periodic eye exams and renew their licenses on time.

N. Mathivanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said that all safety standards should be followed not only during inspection time but 24 hours a day. He also said that strict measures would be taken against the school management in the event of a breach of safety standards.

Following this, a road safety awareness program was organized by the Regional Transport Office (Coimbatore Central) to sensitize school bus drivers and guards to regulatory standards.
