Distance Runner and Fitness YouTuber Elijah Orr recently incorporated more bodyweight staples like push-ups and pull-ups into his training regimen as part of his goal of building strength and upper body muscles. In a new video, he decides to step up his game by spending “a day in the life” of shredded calisthenics influencer Chris Heria, including following his workout routine and meal plan.
Heria starts each day with 100 pull-ups and 100 pull-ups. “I know Chris Heria can hit the 100s at once, or he can do like 2 sets of 50s, but I’m not really there yet in terms of push-up strength, so I decided to go with it. 5 sets of 20 each., “He explains. “I know Chris really emphasizes clean form in all of his workouts, so I’m just trying to keep that in mind… I’ve done a few variations as well.”
Orr follows that up with 30 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike, then finally eats his first meal of the day – grilled salmon, coleslaw without mayo, and quinoa – before trying one of Heria’s Swedish gymnastics workouts for beginners. .
The workout includes hand walks, low to high planks, butterflies, diamond tilt push-ups, decline push-ups, shoulder slaps, pike push-ups, each performed for a total of 3 sets. Then the second and final meal of the day includes chicken breast, short grain rice, green beans, and mashed potatoes, followed by Greek yogurt.
“I did some solid cardio on the bike and had a great pump from the 100 push-ups and 100 pull-ups this morning and then training,” he says. “I had a lot of fun … I want to improve in Swedish gymnastics over the next few months and hopefully continue to implement them to gain strength.”
